ISO Recertification 2017 – we’ve done it!

21. Jul 2017 | People + Business

This year, we were once again successful in being recertified in accordance with the standards ISO 9001:2015 and VDA 6.2:2017.
But what are ISO 9001 and VDA 6.2 actually about?

The theory of ISO

ISO 9001 (International Standardization Organization) is a quality management standard. Companies and organisations of all sizes and sectors can be certified to this. It determines the minimum requirements for a quality management system. As the standard is an international one, it’s valid in every country of the world.

VDA 6.2 (laid down by the German Association of the Automotive Industry) is the quality management standard for services in the automotive industry. It therefore supplements ISO 9001 in this sector. Although VDA 6.2 is a German standard, it can also be applied on an international level.

Our path to excellence

In 1994, we started our first project to achieve DIN EN ISO 9002 certification with the Technical University of Applied Sciences in Wildau, Brandenburg. This was conducted as a pilot project with a team comprising members of the GVA (General Association of the Car Parts Industry). Back then, the certifying body was TÜV Nord, based in Bremen. These were our first points of contact with the issue of quality management.

In 1999, certification according to DIN EN ISO 9001 and VDA 6.2 began in conjunction with Mr Norbert Frey from the DEKRA organization in Stuttgart. At this point, there were significant expansions in terms of strategy and risk management.

We decisively pushed forward with the development of our quality management system over the years that followed. In doing so, we built a framework with the overarching aim of securing the future of Herth+Buss as a family company.

We only ever give our best for all of our interested parties! Naturally, this is always based on the assumption that we continuously strive to improve.

Our current quality management system

Our auditor, Mr Norbert Frey, continues to attend to us to this day. He visits once a year to conduct a supervisory audit and every three years for a recertification audit.

This year, we had been planning the transition from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015, in addition to switching from VDA 6.2:2014 to VDA 6.2:2017.

Furthermore, we also wanted to have our foreign branches in Belgium, France and the UK certified according to ISO 9001:2015 this year.

The process started with the internal audits in our foreign branches, not to mention at our headquarters in Heusenstamm. This year’s audit was the first one for me, which is why I was supported by our former Quality Representative, Malte Stäubner. I was accompanied to the foreign branches and energetically supported by one of our Bachelor’s students, Etienne Fayard.

After successful completion of the internal audits, the external audit was conducted at the end of May by Mr Frey. At the end of the week, we also visited our branch in Belgium.

We received high praise for the great developmental strides our company has made over the past few years.

The external audit also went very well indeed.
That’s why we are now able to proudly say that we are among the first companies to boast a certificate in accordance with the new ISO 9001:2015 and VDA 6.2:2017 standards.

All in all, this was an outstanding result – that goes for me personally, too. I look forward to the exciting quality management tasks yet to come at Herth+Buss!
