In our latest video, our Workshop-Buddies explain everything you need to know about replacing filters step by step. Whether cabin air filter, air filter, fuel filter or oil filter – we show you what you need to look out for and how the change works in our Hyundai. Please note that the filters may be installed in different places in other vehicle brands and types.
The manufacturer’s specifications should always be observed when replacing the filter. The timing also depends on how many kilometres are driven and the terrain in which the vehicle is driven.
The cabin air filter, which protects us from dust, pollen, harmful gases, smoke, ozone and similar contaminants, is available in three different versions. Firstly, there is the normal cabin air filter, which offers basic protection. Then there is the cabin air filter with activated carbon, which additionally filters out more dirt particles and odours. Finally, there is the so-called biofunctional filter, which offers the advantage of additional protection against harmful microorganisms, making it particularly suitable for allergy sufferers.
We also show you how to replace oil filters. Contaminants in the oil, such as metal abrasion, soot or dust particles, impair the oil quality and thus increase engine wear. However, the use of high-quality oil filters can extend the oil change intervals and improve the cooling of the oil flow. The filter inserts remove dirt particles down to a size of 10 micrometres, but cannot remove liquid contaminants or contaminants dissolved in the oil. We therefore recommend replacing the oil filter at every oil change.
We also offer the air filter. This cleans the intake air and dampens the intake noise of the engine. The dust contained in the air consists of tiny particles, some of which also contain quartz. If this dust were to come into contact with the lubricating oil, it could lead to severe wear on the cylinder track, the pistons and the valve guide. Regularly changing the air filter ensures clean intake air and can reduce fuel consumption by up to 10 per cent.
Lastly, we also explain the installation of the fuel filter. These filters protect the fuel system from contamination. Coarse fuel filters, often used as suction filters in the fuel tank, usually consist of a close-meshed wire or polyamide mesh with a mesh size of around 0.06 millimetres. Pure fuel line filters, also known as in-line filters, are used for fine filtration and use paper filters with a pore size of between 0.002 and 0.0001 millimetres. They are completely replaced during maintenance and ensure a long service life of the injection system as well as an even fuel flow.
