In this tutorial, our workshop buddies show you how to replace brakes. This includes replacing the brake discs, brake pads and brake calipers. As the service life varies, not all three components need to be replaced at the same time. For example, the brake discs have a longer service life than the brake pads. If and when the individual components need to be replaced therefore depends on the wear.
In the video, you will first see how the brake disc and brake caliper are removed. To do this, the tyre must first be dismantled by loosening the screw nuts. The handbrake cable must then be released. The brake hose and brake caliper are then removed. Here is an important tip from our workshop buddies: You should disconnect the brake hose first so that no brake fluid escapes. You can now release the brake caliper. This is done by unscrewing the two guide bolts. The brake caliper, brake pads and finally the brake caliper carrier are now removed from the brake disc. Then remove the brake disc from the wheel hub and clean it with a wire brush.
Now that everything is disassembled, the new brake caliper and the new brake pads can be prepared and finally attached. Also clean the brake caliper carrier with a wire brush. Lubricate the new brake pads on the guide points and the brake caliper carrier with mounting paste at the appropriate points. Please ensure that you use the correct mounting paste! In the first step, the new brake disc is now placed on the wheel hub and secured with a wheel nut. Now place the brake caliper carrier on the brake disc and tighten securely. Then place the brake pads in the brake caliper carrier and place the brake caliper on the brake caliper carrier. To do this, insert and tighten the bolts. We have another buddy tip here: Do not forget the dust protection for the guide bolts. You can now attach the brake hose and the handbrake cable to the brake caliper. Check the freedom of movement again and then the wheels can be refitted to the wheel hub and screwed in place.
All done!
Please bear in mind that the replacement should always be carried out by a specialist.
