Testing units for the trailer socket in application [24 V and 12 V]

02. Sep 2025 | Videos EN

In this vehicle tutorial, we show you how easy it can be to check the function of a 12 V or 24 V trailer lighting, the trailer socket or ABS/EBS. We will present four of our testing units for the trailer socket in total and show you how easy it is to carry out a check. The sockets in the device are all connected as shown in the assignment plan.

Our 12 V testing unit (item no.: 95980571) can test both the assignment of the trailer socket and the trailer lighting. Quick connection is guaranteed! Functioning rear lights are essential for safety. That’s why it is important to test the trailer lighting and other rear lights regularly. The testing unit replaces and simulates either the towing vehicle or the trailer, which saves you a lot of time and enables you to check the trailer lighting easily and effectively. The testing unit is also protected with 8 amps. Another advantage is that the tester supplies itself with power independently and is also suitable for CAN Bus Check Control System.

Using our second trailer socket testing unit (item no.: 95980658) you can check both the 24 V trailer lighting and the ABS/EBS. The testing unit is also protected with 8 amps. The power is supplied externally using a 24 V power supply unit provided (cable length is 3.7 m). There are also 7-, 13- and 15-pin connectors for testing the trailer socket. A rotary switch can be used to supply the lighting functions with voltage. Voltage can also be applied to the following cables: Brake pad wear sensor, pressure sensor for spring loaded cylinder, axle lift mechanism, data communication cable.

The third testing unit for the towbar socket, presented by our workshop buddy Pete, has article number 95980572. The testing unit is used to simplify the checking of an ISO7638 (ABS/EBS) socket on the towing vehicle and the coiled cable between the towing vehicle and trailer for short circuits or cable breaks. You can easily see the result of the test on the LEDs mounted on the device housing.

Finally, Pete presents our testing unit for the trailer and the towing vehicle with article number 95980659, which is used for checking 7-, 13- and 15-pin 24 V connectors and sockets. The testing unit runs via an internal battery power supply, enabling the trailer socket to be checked wirelessly via a transmitter. The testing unit is also supplied with remote control and protected with 8 amps. A particular advantage is that the testing unit is also suitable for CAN Bus.
