RepSolutions and everything that goes with it

09. Jul 2019 | Technology + Products

The RepSolutions catalogue was first printed some two years ago. Countless copies have meanwhile found their way into the hands of wholesalers and workshops. It's now a good time to take a closer look at the term RepSolutions and to make it clearer for everyone who hasn't yet come into contact with this subject.

Let's start with how the word is made up. Rep, an abbreviation for repair, is followed by Solutions, and the name clearly indicates what seems to be at issue here: repair solutions.

What does the name mean?

Once we have settled this, most people then wonder: "Repair solutions…what for, exactly?" And that's what we're going to explain in this article. Jens, a member of our workshop field team, has put this in a nutshell: "A fantastic time saving for every workshop"!

It should be mentioned here that a repair solution comes in many different forms: ranging from the classical spare part to developing solutions for the problems of tomorrow. We should however admit we're going a bit far with this last one. Let's be brief by saying we want to offer independent workshops the possibility of performing a repair in OE quality. In this context, over the last decade we have increasingly come across technical components/sectors in the automotive industry using products for which there either weren't any options for repair or only at great expense. This now brings us to the oldest product in the RepSolutions programme: the RepCabs.

RepSolutions are a fantastic time saving for every workshop!

RepCab

RepCab is the short form for Repair set, Cable harness. After a number of years the cables on classical harnesses start to break due to their stiff PVC isolation, particularly in vehicle areas such as the doors and tailgate. We tackled this problem in cooperation with our supplier and came up with a solution that allows defective sections of a harness to be repaired, i.e. without replacing the entire thing.

RepCon

The RepCons are a variation on the RepCabs. This term stands for Repair set, Connector. The solution only involves the part of the harness that is used for connection to the relevant application (e.g. connection to the EGR valve, air mass sensor, etc.). With RepCon, Herth+Buss offers the option of replacing a faulty plug housing plus contacts quickly and simply to make a high-quality repair.

RepLine

It is however often only individual contacts that are affected by a defect (e.g. charring due to overloading or corrosion following an ingress of moisture). In this case it is possible to effect replacement using a single cable for repair – the RepLine. If in the past you wanted to replace faulty contacts, you needed several different parts: the crimp connector (contacts), cables, crimping pliers and a special crimping pliers insert for the crimp connector. Repair lines from Herth+Buss are 30 cm in length and equipped with an attached (pre-crimped) contact. Here's another major benefit: There's no need to buy special crimping tools. All you have to do is contact the RepLine to the cable in the vehicle using a standard squeeze connector.

To make things clearer, we have summarised the three products in the following table:

RepPipe

Another repair solution that almost every workshop will probably have come across in the last few years goes by the name of the RepPipe. This stands for Repair set, wash water Pipe. The repair kit lets a defective section of wash water pipes be replaced quickly and easily. It doesn't matter whether you're dealing with a smooth hose or a corrugated pipe in the vehicle. This patented solution is only available from Herth+Buss in the spare parts market.

RepVac

The RepVac repair kit (Repair set, Vacuum line) allows faulty vacuum lines made from elastomer and hard plastic to be replaced by a modern corrugated vacuum pipe that is flexible. Examples of applications include negative pressure connections on air filter boxes, distributors, MAP sensors, pressure control valves, central locking systems, etc.

RepDPF

With the RepDPF repair kit, defective connecting hoses between the diesel particle filter (DPF) and the differential pressure sensor can be replaced. The high temperature-resistant hoses protect the silicone pressure lines against external influences. The braided sheaths in particular reliably stop the 1-metre pressure hoses from getting bitten through by pine martens. In addition, the pressure lines and protective hoses are extremely flexible and can be bent to cater for the individual damage that has occurred.
